Classification of Mine Drainages in Japan Based on Water Quality: Consideration for Constructed Wetland Treatments

نویسندگان

چکیده

As a passive technology, constructed wetlands (CWs) are promising candidates for mine-drainage treatment. However, the design and operation of CWs have not been fully established because chemical compositions mine drainage diverse. In this study data sets 100 drainages in Japan were classified using multivariate analysis based on water quality. Mine was into eight types ratio concentrations Cd, Pb, As, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn to effluent standard: (I) neutral low metal concentration, (II) weakly acidic (III) high Zn (IV) concentrations, (V) (VI) Fe (VII) extremely (VIII) concentration. Mechanisms removing metals discussed classification. Metal hydroxides Cd can precipitate with an increasing pH. Under oxidative conditions, dissolved oxidized oxides. reductive Cu as sulfides. This classification will be helpful systematic CWs.

Effects of vegetation management in constructed wetland treatment cells on water quality and mosquito production

The impact of three vegetation management strategies on wetland treatment function and mosquito production was assessed in eight free water surface wetland test cells in southern California during 1998–1999. The effectiveness of the strategies to limit bulrush Schoenoplectus californicus culm density within the cells was also investigated. Removing accumulated emergent biomass and physically li...

Microbiology of a wetland ecosystem constructed to remediate mine drainage from a heavy metal mine.

A pilot passive treatment plant (PPTP) was constructed to evaluate the potential of a composite wetland system to remediate acidic, metal-rich water draining the former Wheal Jane tin, in Cornwall, England. The treatment plant consists of three separate and controllable composite systems, each of which comprises a series of aerobic wetlands for iron oxidation and precipitation, a compost biorea...

Impact of plant density and microbial composition on water quality from a free water surface constructed wetland.

AIMS To correlate microbial community composition and water quality changes within wetland cells containing varying plant densities and composition in a free water surface (FWS) constructed wetland. METHODS AND RESULTS Water chemistry was monitored weekly for nitrate, orthophosphate, and suspended solids, at various sites throughout the wetland for 6 months. Treatment ponds with 50% plant cov...

Zoning of Bamdej Wetland Water Quality based on the Spatio-temporal Kriging

Inland wetlands are of the most important natural terrestrial types of water resources. Against its importance in protecting and improving biodiversity, air quality and macro-climatic condition of their regions, industrial development, and urbanization treat their natural existence and behavior. Therefore, monitoring and quality evaluation of wetlands are necessary to analyze and infer their na...
